Jesus told them another parable: . . . (Matt. 13:31-32)

"The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches"

Have you ever seen a mustard seed? The mustard seed is the smallest of all seeds. It is so small that if you were holding one in your hand and you dropped it you would have a very hard time finding it because it is so hard to see. Even though the mustard seed is so small when it is planted in the ground, it grows into a tree large enough for birds to stand on its branches and to make their nests in it.

When you look at this little mustard seed before planting it in the ground, you might think it would be impossible for a seed so tiny to grow into a tree. But our God turns that tiny seed into a wonderful place for birds to come and rest and sing.

When Jesus told this parable He compared it to loving God. When children, like you, or adults begin to love Jesus, their love is like a tiny mustard seed before it is planted in the ground. It starts out very small at first. Then when you keep on listening to what Jesus says and obeying Him, then the love grows bigger and bigger. Soon it will grow like the big mustard tree.
You can also find this parable in Mark 4:30-32; and Luke 13:18-19

MEMORY VERSE

"I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you"
Matthew 17:20

Dear Sunday School Parent,

I would like to inform you about some exciting events coming up in the next couple months at St. Paul’s Sunday School:

Sunday, November 8th Friendship Sunday.  Proverbs 17:17 says “A friend loves at all times.”  We are asking every student to invite a friend to Sunday School on this day.

Sunday, November 8th – Donations are due for our Thanksgiving Holiday Food Baskets.  Our Sunday School students will be showing their thanks to the Lord for their blessings by donating food items for needy families.  Your child will be given a slip of paper with a food item to bring in for our Thanksgiving Holiday Food Baskets, which will be distributed by Lutheran Family and Community Services.  Cash donations will also be accepted to help purchase a turkey for a needy family.

Saturday, November 21st – The Dorcas Aid Holiday Craft Fair will be held from 9:30 am – 4:00 pm.  We are asking our Sunday School families to donate baked goods for us to sell at our table at the fair.  Baked goods will be accepted at the church any time before 2:00 pm that day.  Each item should be packaged and ready to sell.  Plastic wrap works well on cakes and breads, and zip loc bags are perfect for cookies and brownies.  We also need volunteers to help us sell for an hour or two.  Please prayerfully consider joining us!

Sunday, December 20th – Save the date!  Our Sunday School Christmas Pageant will be held during the 10:30 am church service.  The children will be learning their songs during Sunday School and a dress rehearsal is scheduled for Saturday, December 19th at 11:00 am.

There’s a lot happening at St. Paul’s.  We hope that you can join us for all the fun activities we have planned!

Please note that there will be no Sunday School classes on the following dates:

November 29th – Thanksgiving weekend

December 27th – Christmas weekend

January 3rd – New Year’s weekend

Classes will resume on Sunday, January 10th.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email us at: HolyJan53@optonline.net
